A card shuffler and other card-handling devices and card shoe incorporating means for detecting marked cards. A wide band illuminator acts as a light source configured to emit various wavelengths of light off of card backs at an angle. A spectral sensor detects reflected wavelength intensities from the card back between lengths of 350 nm to 1 100 nm. A processor then stores in memory the intensity at each reflected wavelength from ultraviolet to infrared. The wide band illuminator emits a spot/circle of approximately 1.0 mm diameter (or larger or smaller) which is rapidly traversed across the card back. A scanning mirror moves the spot/circle several thousand times per second incrementally across the card back. Using a raster scan technique, a complete image of the card back is acquired in a brief amount and the acquired intensity information is then analyzed by the processor for anomalies in intensity and wavelength, which indicate an undesirable mark on the card back.
|
