[Also in Division H1] A waveguide junction forming part of the TR apparatus of a distance-measuring device comprises co-linear circular and rectangular waveguides 20, 23 and a third waveguide 22 having its axis at rightangles to the common axis and inclined at a small angle # to the short side of the rectangular guide. The arrangement is such that the third waveguide 22 picks up a small fraction of the continuous signal transmitted from the rectangular waveguide towards the antenna, but picks up the major portion of the received signal which is polarized at right-angles to the transmitted signal. The waveguide 22 forms the feed of a receiver in which the transmitted and received signals are mixed. Instead of waveguide 22, a probe may be used, but in this case it is necessary to re-orientate the waveguide 21 so that the probe makes a small angle with the major, instead of the minor, axis of the guide.</p> |
