摘要 A wireless, non-contact charging apparatus for an electric vehicle has an optical monitoring device comprising at least one light sensor element 24a-24d that measures light intensity generated by at least one light source element 14a-14d. The optical monitoring device detects a speed of an object moving in the space between a primary coil 12 in a ground floor charging pad 10 and a secondary coil 22 in an electric vehicle pad 20 by analysis of a light intensity change. Depending on a monitoring result, the optical monitoring device operates inductive energy transmission between the primary coil 12 and secondary coil 10 to inductively charge the vehicle. The light source element(s) 14a-14d may be installed on either of the ground pad 10 or the vehicle pad 20 with the light sensor element(s) 24a-24d installed on the respective other pad, wherein the source element(s) and sensor element(s) face each other and are in alignment when the primary and second coils 12, 22 are in optimal placement to each other. The light source elements 14a-14d and light sensor elements 24a-24d may be arranged in an alternating sequence along a pre-selectable path of a pattern, which defines positions of either a light source element 14a-14d or a light sensor element 24a-24d.
