A rating is provided for a computing application. Traffic data, power data, and/or network signaling load data is collected for a computing application and compared with other similar data. A rating for the computing application is provided based on the comparison.

A method, comprising collecting, via a communication network, traffic data and power data, wherein the traffic data comprises data representative of traffic volume generated by usage of a computing application, the power data comprising data representative of power consumed by usage of the computing application and data representative of a timing of packets arriving at and departing from a computing device using the computing application; performing a comparison selected from the group consisting of a first comparison between the traffic data and other traffic volume data and a second comparison between the power data and the power consumption data; providing a rating for the computing application based on the comparison; simulating a state of usage of the computing device based on the timing of the packets arriving at and departing from the computing device; and estimating power consumed by usage of the computing application by the computing device based on the simulated state of usage of the computing device.
