Beneficial and synergistic effects for alleviating joint pain and symptoms of osteoarthritis and/or rheumatoid arthritis have been found using a mixture of fish oil and fish oil derived, choline based, phospholipid bound fatty acid mixture including polyunsaturated EPA and DHA either alone or in combination with other active constituents, including astaxanthin and polymeric hyaluronic acid or sodium hyaluronate (hyaluronan) in an oral dosage form.

A dietary supplement composition formulated in a therapeutic amount to treat and alleviate symptoms of joint pain in a patient, wherein the composition includes a mixture of fish oil and fish oil derived, choline based, phospholipid bound fatty acid mixture including polyunsaturated EPA and DHA in combination with astaxanthin and low molecular weight microbial fermented sodium hyaluronate having a molecular weight of between 0.5 and 100 kilodaltons (kDa) in an oral dosage form.
