The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for localizing sound sources having directivity, from a musical sound signal in which various sound sources including vocals and sounds of instruments, are mixed, by using a panning technique. The method for localizing sound sources using a weighted average according to the present invention comprises separating an input stereo signal into principal components and ambient components by using principal component analysis, and extracting an eigenvector with respect to the principal components; determining positions of sound sources in the stereo signal for each frequency band by using the extracted eigenvector; and calculating a weighted average according to accuracy of the determined positions by using energy levels of each frequency band in the stereo signal. According to the present invention, since position estimate accuracy of a sound source object can be improved by using an estimated SNR and energy levels of each frequency band instead of a uniform average scheme used in the conventional methods, positions of sound source objects in a musical sound signal with various sound sources can be more accurately determined. Furthermore, rearrangement of each sound source object can be performed, since sound source objects are localized with respect to various kinds of music.
|
