The objective of the present invention is to provide: a nonaqueous electrolyte battery which exhibits high initial efficiency, while having excellent initial capacity and excellent safety at the time of overcharge; and a nonaqueous electrolyte solution which enables the achievement of this nonaqueous electrolyte battery. A nonaqueous electrolyte solution which contains an electrolyte and a nonaqueous solvent, and which is characterized in that the nonaqueous electrolyte solution additionally contains an aromatic compound represented by formula (I). (In the formula, each of R1-R5 independently represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, or an unsubstituted or halogen-substituted hydrocarbon group having 1-20 carbon atoms; each of R6 and R7 independently represents a hydrocarbon group having 1-12 carbon atoms; and at least two of R1-R7 may combine together to form a ring. In this connection, formula (I) satisfies the following condition (A) and/or condition (B). (A) At least one of R1-R5 is a halogen atom or an unsubstituted or halogen-substituted hydrocarbon group having 1-20 carbon atoms. (B) The total number of carbon atoms of R1-R7 is from 3 to 20 (inclusive).) A nonaqueous electrolyte battery which comprises this nonaqueous electrolyte solution.
