The hydroponic medium (30) is provided with: a permeable section (2), which is a portion that surrounds the underground section (1A) of a plant and holds permeating moisture; and a non-permeable section (3), which is provided so as to surround the permeable section (2) and through which moisture does not permeate. Additionally the hydroponic medium (30) is configured from a material that does not contain organic substances. The hydroponic apparatus (70) is provided with: a container (6) in which a nutrient solution (60) is stored; the hydroponic medium (30) for positioning a plant (1) above the nutrient solution (60) in the container (6) so that the roots of the plant (1) are immersed in the nutrient solution (60); and a medium-supporting member (7), which has a through hole into which the hydroponic medium (30) is inserted. Provided thereby are a hydroponic medium and a hydroponic apparatus that are able to prevent the growth of molds and insect pests.
