PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a moisture catcher-forming composition for organic EL elements which can be handled in the air, and a moisture catcher which can be handled in the air, thereby providing an organic EL element.SOLUTION: A moisture catcher-forming composition for organic EL elements is prepared to include: (A) carboxylic acid anhydride; and (B) at least one agent selected from a group consisting of an oxygen-generating agent and a base-generating agent. An organic EL element 100 is provided by the steps of: using the moisture catcher-forming composition for organic EL elements to form a moisture catcher 30; and airtightly sealing the moisture catcher in a structure 20 together with an organic EL layer 10 including an organic luminescent layer, thereby isolating the moisture catcher from the air.
