PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: identification of novel mutations in the Janus kinase (JAK) 2 gene and JAK2 protein; and compositions and methods useful for diagnosing hematopoietic diseases, such as myeloproliferative diseases, based on the JAK2 gene.SOLUTION: An isolated RNA nucleic acid comprising at least 17 contiguous nucleotides corresponding to a specific sequence where nucleotide 2271-2358 (exon 14) is deleted. The nucleic acid or polypeptide further comprises at least one additional mutation, and/or is labeled with a detectable label. Also provided is a method of applying the nucleic acid or polypeptide to detection of hematopoietic diseases such as myeloproliferative diseases. |
