A pipeline tensioning assembly comprises a pipeline tensioning device able to apply tension to a marine pipeline 10 in passage through the pipeline tensioning assembly. The pipeline tensioning device 18 has a pipeline surface engagement piece 20, characterized in that it includes a releasable surface-adhesive portion. This portion comprises a backing layer, an elastic material impregnated onto the backing layer, and an adhesive surface for releasably adhering to the pipeline outer surface. In this way, the releasable surface-adhesive portion can enable large contact surfaces, high-load capacity, easier release, extended use and repeated use based on the combined properties of the elastic material, and the draping characteristics of the backing layer. Furthermore, the elastic material provides a mechanism for repeated attachment and separation cycles without degrading the load bearing capacity of the adhesive interface. The backing layer can have high in-plane stiffness, and the pipeline surface engagement piece can be a solid face of the tensioning device. |
