PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a honeycomb structure which can tightly fix the collecting layer of a honeycomb structure on the surface of a partition wall and can form such a collecting layer at a relatively low temperature.SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a honeycomb structure includes: a raw material supply step in which a collecting layer precursor is formed on the surface of a partition wall 12 of a honeycomb substrate by applying thereon a collecting layer-forming raw material containing aggregate particles 21 comprising ceramics, a Lewis base component, and a binding part-forming raw material capable of generating a Lewis acid component which generates a salt by acid-base reaction with the Lewis base component in the ceramics constituting the aggregate particles 21, whereby a honeycomb substrate with the formed collecting layer precursor is obtained; and a heat treatment step in which the obtained honeycomb substrate with the collecting layer precursor formed therein is heat treated to bring the Lewis base component in the aggregate particles 21 and the Lewis acid component in the binding part-forming raw material into acid-base reaction, and a collecting layer 30 is formed in which the aggregate particles 21 are fixed on one another and on the partition wall 12 by binding parts 32 containing a salt generated by the acid-base reaction. |
