发明名称 Tape wrapping apparatus and method
摘要 1,093,156. Winding tape on to a core. J. C. THOMPSON. Dec. 2, 1964 [Dec. 13, 1963], No. 48991/64. Heading B8G An apparatus for wrapping tape 94 on to a rotatable body 202 has a support 96 for a roll of tape 98; a rotatable support 56 for the body 202; means 104 for feeding the tape from the roll to the body, which feeding means is adapted to be stopped during rotation of the body; means 14 for pressing the tape against the body 202 and for rotating the body 202 during the tape wrapping 'operation; and severing means 146 for severing the wrapped tape from the fed tape; the tape being kept under tension during severing. A wrapping operation is performed as a result of one reciprocation of a rack 36. At the start of a wrapping operation the rack 36 is at its lowermost position in which it engages a post 78 to force a block 70 and thus the spindle 56 downwardly. This results in spacing of the spindle 56 from the roller 14 by a distance sufficient to permit slipping of a nipple or body 202 on to the spindle 56 below the roller 14. The rack 36 is then moved upwardly and this permits the spindle 56 to move upwardly under the force of a spring, not shown, such that the nipple 202 is pressed against the roller 14. Further upward movement of the rack 36 causes rotation of a gear 18 and pawl 22, but the pawl rides over the ratchet wheel teeth such that the roller 14 is not rotated. The pin 143 deflects the crank lever 126 upwardly with respect to the crank 120, but does not actuate the crank 120. At its uppermost setting the rack 36 operates control means that reverses the direction of motion of the rack. Upon downward motion of the rack 36, the gear 18 is turned oppositely such that the pawl 22 engages the ratchet wheel 16 and causes the roller 14 to rotate counterclockwise as viewed in Fig. 5. Almost simultaneously therewith, the pin 143 at the lower end of the rack 36 engages the lever 126 to deflect the crank 120 downwardly. This results in feeding of the tape 94 towards the spindle 56 and roller 14. Continued downward movement of the rack 36 continues the rotation of the roller 14 and the nipple 202, thereby causing the tape 94 to wrap around the nipple 202. Wrapping continues until the rack 36 has moved downwardly far enough to cause a pin 184 to engage a cam block 166 carrying a knife 146. Downward movement of the block 166 causes the knife 146 to cut the tape 94. Further downward movement of the rack 36 completes the wrapping of the tape on the nipple or body 202. The tape 94 is preferably of polytetrafluoroethylene. The invention is particularly applicable to the wrapping of said tape around externally threaded members to prevent leakage between such member when threaded on to a screw bore.
