Apparatus for supplying fluid samples suitable for automatic analysis apparatus comprises supply means 72' for providing a plurality of sequentially spaced apart samples of a flowing stream, conduit 86' having an inlet 74' coupled to the supply means for receiving the sample streams therefrom, outlets 88', 90', 92, 94', 96', 98', 100' each leading to analysis apparatus not shown and outlet 102', manometer 210, reverse flush syringe 129', a valve 306 for alternatively coupling outlet 120' to manometer 210 and syringe 129, the manometer being adapted to complete an electrical circuit in response to or decrease of pressure in conduit 86' below a predetermined level which is indicative of a blockage in conduit 86', which blockage can be removed by liquid from syringe 129', and control means coupled to the manometer 210 and the valve 306 for normally actuating said valve means to couple the manometer 210 to conduit 86', (Fig. 7) and on completion of the electrical circuit for actuating the valve means to couple the syringe to conduit 86' (Fig. 8). The control means consists of a motor 120' for rotating valve 306, an electrical source 128' and wiring connecting them in series to metal terminals (226, 270) of manometer 210 (Fig. 6, not shown). Motor 140' is also activated by snap action switch 344 as table 72' is rotated to rotate valve 132' to vent manometer 210 to the atmosphere between provisioning of successive samples (Fig. 8). In the embodiment of Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), valve 308 is replaced by a valve 106 which in a first position (Fig. 3) couples conduit 86' (labelled 86 in Figs. 3 and 4) to the manometer and the syringe to the atmosphere, and in a second position (Fig. 4) couples the syringe to conduit 86' and vents the manometer to the atmosphere. |
