The present invention relates to a flow battery wherein a cathode electrolytic solution and an anode electrolytic solution are provided for charge and discharge to a battery cell including a cathode, an anode and a separator disposed between the cathode and the anode. The cathode electrolytic solution contains electrolyte including one or more kinds of metallocene-based materials selected from metallocene derivatives having metallocene and an electron-drawing functional group. The anode electrolytic solution contains electrolyte including one or more kinds of metallocene-based materials selected from metallocene derivatives having metallocene and an electron-giving functional group. The cathode electrolytic solution and the anode electrolytic solution include a non-aqueous solvent for dissociating electrolyte. The metallocene-based materials used for the cathode electrolytic solution has an oxidation-reduction potential greater than that of the metallocene-based material used for the anode electrolytic solution. According to the present invention, the metallocene having a high solubility and a fast reaction rate is used as electrolyte, thereby compensating for the disadvantages of the non-aqueous solvent having a low solubility and a low reaction rate (low current), and the non-aqueous solvent capable of increasing an energy density is used, thereby providing a high energy density and a high output. |
