摘要 Key performance indicators that are necessary to properly measure the health of video surveillance applications and the supporting infrastructure are disclosed. The performance indicators include: Video Path Uptime (VPU), Video Stream Delivery Index (VSDI), and, Video Retention Compliance (VRC). From these metrics, it is possible to calibrate whether the surveillance infrastructure is operating properly. These metrics can be used to properly alert video network administrators of problems that are actually affecting the video surveillance application. It is also possible to use these metrics to build better analytics to determine root cause of problems as well as build prediction models for potential problems before they occur

A method of monitoring quality of video data in a video surveillance infrastructure, where incoming video data streams received from a plurality of video capturing devices are processed by a video management software (VMS) application running on a video processing server, and processed outgoing video data streams are directed to one or more storage devices, the method comprising: for video data path, calculating by a video quality monitoring processor, a first key performance indicator (KPI) based on availability of both an incoming video data stream and an outgoing video data stream; for each video data path, calculating by the video quality monitoring processor, a second KPI based on the quality of the outgoing video data stream to be stored in a storage device; for each video data path, calculating by the video quality monitoring processor, a third KPI based on a desired retention time in the storage device; using the first, second and third KPIs of all data streams to determine overall quality of video data in the video surveillance infrastructure.
