In a method of making a roller bearing cage or cage segment from flat strip C, rectangular openings are punched in the strip using a die which has grooves 3 which are perpendicular to the long sides 2a of the die openings, Fig. 2. The effect of these grooves is to form projections on one face of the strip, which, in a subsequent operation are flattened so that material is forced into the openings to form roller retaining projections 5. Similar projections may be formed at the other face of the strip C by upsetting the material at 6. Roller retaining projections may also be formed in the short sides 2b of the openings by cutting grooves 3<SP>1</SP> in the face of the die.</p> |
