Waste gases from a refining vessel 11 having an oxy-fuel burner 12 and an offtake 13 controlled by a valve 14 as in Specification 1,057,041, pass in turn through a combustion chamber 15, a charging bucket 18 on a truck 22, and a flue 20 incorporating a fan 21. A valve 17 controls the admission of diluting air and diametrically disposed manifolds of inverted U- form with orifices spaced along the legs thereof are located on the charge basket wall, Fig. 3 (not shown). In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the combustion chamber is omitted and the charging basket lid 19 comprises a deep hood. A further modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), retains a combustion chamber, passing the resultant gases into the annular space formed between a charge containing vessel and an inner sheath extending downwardly from the lid, which incorporates the waste flue and fan. Another modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), has openings in the doors closing the bottom of the charging basket, through which the waste gases are exhausted.</p> |
