There is provided an acousto-optic device including an acousto-optic interaction medium 113 having an acoustic wave generator coupled to a first surface and arranged to selectively-generate an acoustic wave in the acousto-optic interaction medium; a groove having a substantially triangular cross section formed in a second surface opposite the first surface and arranged to receive the acoustic wave and reflect it towards third and fourth surfaces to prevent the reflected acoustic wave interfering with an incident light beam. A first indium-comprising layer is coupled to the third surface; a second indium-comprising layer is coupled to the fourth surface; a first metal cooling block 108 is coupled to the first indium-comprising layer and a second metal cooling block is coupled to the second indium-comprising layer. The groove has a radius of curvature of 0.1 to 3.0 mm at the apex. The first and second indium-comprising layers have a thickness of 0.1 to 1.0 mm. This arrangement prevents thermal lensing and hence reduces beam distortion and deformation. |
