A welding apparatus 10 including a weld head 13, a control unit 12 and a gas conduit 14. The conduit extends between the control unit and the weld head, and supplies a gas to the weld head. A flow determining device is arranged to determine a flow rate of gas flowing through the gas conduit between the control unit and the weld head. A visual or audible alert may be generated via an indicator 30 when the determined flow of gas is above or below a predetermined minimum/maximum threshold. A display 28 may show the determined flow rate of gas. The gas may be an inert gas such as argon. The flow determining device may be configured to measure changes in the flow rate of the gas within 0.5 litres per minute. The apparatus may be used in relation to quality control in automotive mass-production facilities. |
