<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new catalyst for producing a petroleum resin which has excellent color tone and monomer polymerization conversion ratio of a raw material oil and enables use of a petroleum resin having a low gel content, especially a raw material oil containing a high content of dicyclopentadienes, and to provide a method for producing a petroleum resin using the same.SOLUTION: There is provided a catalyst for producing a petroleum resin which comprises boron trifluoride, phenol and ether, wherein the total molar ratio of the phenol and ether to the boron trifluoride is 1.3 to 2.7 and the molar ratio, (phenol/ether) at that time is in the range of 0.5 to 26.0. Also provided is a method for producing a petroleum resin using the catalyst.</p> |
