PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust gas purification system and a control method thereof capable of correctly warning shortage of a residual amount of urea water in a tank regardless of an attitude of a vehicle, and improving reliability of a conventional float-type level sensor.SOLUTION: In an exhaust gas purification system including an injection nozzle 5 for supplying urea water 7 in a urea water tank 8 loaded on a vehicle, into an exhaust pipe 3 of a diesel engine 2, and a float-type level sensor 14 for measuring a level of the urea water 7 in the urea water tank 8, an ECU 17 operates notifying means 15 for providing a notification of defective measurement of the float-type level sensor when an integrated value of a supply amount from the injection nozzle 5 from a predetermined time point is a predetermined first threshold value or less, and operates warning means 16 for warning the shortage of a residual amount of the urea water 7, when the integrated value is not the first threshold value or less. |
