PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an anvil assembly which is suitable for use with a circular anastomosis stapler.SOLUTION: An anvil assembly 10 includes a center rod assembly 14, a head assembly 12 pivotally secured to the center rod assembly from an operative position to a tilted position, and a sleeve member 15 slidably disposed about the center rod assembly. The sleeve member is configured such that movement of the head assembly from the operative position towards the tilted position effects proximal movement of the sleeve member about the center rod assembly, and configured to reposition an anastomosis donut and/or other tissue or obstruction formed during an anastomosis procedure to prevent pinching of the anastomosis donut, tissue and/or obstruction by the head assembly. |
