The butt (1) has a body (2) and a recoil pad (5) mounted on a rear of the butt by a single ball joint (9) for enabling the position of the recoil pad to be adjusted with respect to the butt. The ball joint includes a spherical protuberance (10) of the recoil pad or of the butt, where the protuberance is housed in a spherical hollow (11) of the butt or the recoil pad respectively. The spherical hollow includes a wall (12), where the protuberance is retained in the spherical hollow by a bolt (14) going through the wall through an opening (16) and by a nut (17) into which the bolt is screwed. An independent claim is also included for a recoil pad assembly.
