The invention relates to a method for examining a value document of a specified value document type for the presence of at least one irregularity of at least one specified type, such as an irregularity in the form of at least one attachment, preferably an adhesive strip, and/or a fold and/or a material removal, wherein an ultrasonic data set is recorded, which describes at least one ultrasonic property, preferably the ultrasonic transmission, of the value document in a spatially resolved manner, a deviation data set is determined, which describes a deviation between the ultrasonic data set and a model in a spatially resolved manner and is determined in such a way that the deviation described by the deviation data set is minimal in relation to the model, wherein the model comprises a model for the spatial dependence of the at least one ultrasonic property of reference value documents of the specified value document type without irregularities of the at least one specified type, and the deviation data set is used to examine whether there is an indication of an irregularity of the at least one type on the value document. The invention further relates to means for performing the method. |
