The present invention provides a method and an apparatus for reporting a switch type. The method comprises at least one of the following: an OpenFlow (OF) switch reporting a type of the OF switch to an OF controller; and after an OF configuration point configures and/or obtains the type of the OF switch, reporting the type of the OF switch to the OF controller, wherein the OF switch is an OF logic switch. The present invention solves a problem in the related art that the OF controller cannot sense which type of OF switch the OF switch is and has a beneficial effect that the OF controller can easily obtain the type of the OF switch.
