PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of manufacturing a polyarylene sulfide resin having high degree of freedom in design of constitutional units and further sufficient high molecular weight.SOLUTION: The invention relates to a method of manufacturing a polyarylene sulfide resin including a process of obtaining poly(arylene sulfonium salt) having a specific constitutional unit by reacting sulfoxide represented by the general formula (1) and a specific aromatic compound, and a process of obtaining a polyarylene sulfide resin having specific constitutional unit by dealkylation or dearylation of the poly(arylene sulfonium salt).
