PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a glass optical element including a glass polarizing material having a particle containing layer containing a plurality of metal containing particles having an excellent durability, and an optical element.SOLUTION: A glass optical element manufacturing process for manufacturing a glass polarizer or a glass optical element 1 including a glass material 10 having a particle containing layer 13 containing a plurality of metal containing particles 12, comprises: the step of preparing the glass material 10; and a precipitation step for precipitating the plural metal containing particles 12 into the glass material 10 by irradiating the glass material 10 with a laser beam; and a step of varying at least one of the aspect ratio and the length of said metal containing particles, wherein said precipitation step further includes the step of focusing said laser beam in said glass material and scanning said laser beam, while holding the deflection direction, to precipitate said metal containing particles while being directed along one direction, and irradiating said metal containing particles with a laser beam. |
