Disclosed are a gesture-based remote control system and a control method thereof. A recording unit of a system takes images of a driver in a vehicle, and an image processing unit based on recognition of the eyes and the endpoints of the hands of the driver from the images taken by the recording unit calculates the position of the viewing point which the eyes and the endpoints of the hands of the driver indicate and recognizes hand gestures of the driver from the taken images. A remote control unit recognizes a device in the vehicle which the viewing point indicates using the position of the viewing point calculated by the image processing unit, recognizes a control gesture corresponding to the hand gestures recognized by the image processing unit, then operates the recognized device in the vehicle. |
