摘要 <p>The present invention relates to a control system for operation of an irrigation canal to meet water demand and power demand. The control system comprises a plant database, a forecast model, an advanced process control solution provided with plurality of process models and optimizer, operated along with a local controller that receives set points from the advanced process controller. The control system has a plant measurement system along with a plant database to provide values of water flow rate, water level, gate opening, pump speed, location of the hydrokinetic turbines in the irrigation canal, and power generated by the hydrokinetic turbines. The forecast model provides a demand profile corresponding to the water demand and the power demand. The control system generates water level and water flow profiles over a time horizon based on models of the plurality of canal components, the values from the plant measurement system and the plant database considering the time delays associated with the canal components. The optimizer provides set points to control the speeds of the plurality of pumps and openings of the plurality of gates to optimally meet the power and water demand according to the generated water level and water flow profiles.</p>
