1,070,601. Coke ovens. KOPPERS CO. Inc. March 11, 1965 [March 11, 1964], No. 10469/65. Heading F4B. A horizontal regenerative coke oven battery 10 comprises vertical hairpin flues 22, 24 used alternately as " on " and " off " combustion flues interconnected at the top by passageway 26, a gas distribution system comprising a conduit 38 to feed gas to " high " and " low " burner nozzles 48, 50 in the base of each " on " flue 22, a combustion air distribution system to supply pressurized heated air from regenerators through passageways 28 to the base of each " on " flue, a vertical duct 58 surrounding each nozzle 48 and a passageway 66 connecting each duct 58 with a similar duct 62 in the companion " off " flue 24 thereby permitting a portion of the used combustion gases to be recirculated and mingle with the rich fuel gas from nozzle 48 in the duct 58 in the proportion 1 : 1 to prevent decomposition due to the heat developed by " low " burner 50. The resultant diluted fuel gas burns with air at the top 60 of duet 58 so acting as a " high " burner. In a modification (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown) the sets of " high " and " low " burner nozzles are situated at different levels, whilst each vertical duct is connected, at the base of the dividing wall, to the companion " off " flue not to the companion " off " duct, to permit the waste gas recirculation. |
