PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust gas purification catalyst capable of efficiently removing especially NOx of CO, HC and NOx which are harmful components contained in an exhaust gas.SOLUTION: There is provided an exhaust gas purification catalyst which contains a thin plate-like ceria (CeO) having an average diameter equivalent to a circle of a planar direction of 2 to 50 μm and an average thickness of 0.01 to 1 μm as a catalyst active component and further contains a fire-resistant inorganic oxide, an oxide of at least one element selected from an alkali metal, am alkali earth metal, a rare earth element, manganese, tungsten and a noble metal. An exhaust gas purification catalyst containing a thin plate-like ceria (CeO) occludes NOx in an oxidizing atmosphere and releases and reduces NOx in a reducing atmosphere, which can be used as a so-called NOx trap catalyst. |
