This foil bearing unit (100) is provided with: a first foil holder (31) composed of a single part; a radial bearing foil (40) mounted to the inner peripheral surface (31c) of the first foil holder (31); a thrust bearing foil (50) mounted to an end surface (31d) of the first foil holder (31); and an inner member (20) having a shaft section (sleeve section (21)) inserted into the inner periphery of the first foil holder (31) and also having a flange section (22) which protrudes to the outer diameter side from the sleeve section (21). Fluid pressure occurring in the bearing gap between the bearing surface of the radial bearing foil (40) and the outer peripheral surface of the sleeve section (21) radially supports the inner member (20), and fluid pressure occurring in the bearing gap between the bearing surface of the thrust bearing foil (50) and one end surface of the flange section (22) supports the inner member (20) in the thrust direction.
