PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery including a negative electrode active material consisting of silicon oxide, and arranged by the process including the step of rapidly pre-doping lithium into a negative electrode while suppressing the deformation of the negative electrode.SOLUTION: A nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery comprises: a positive electrode; a negative electrode; and a nonaqueous electrolyte. The negative electrode includes: a negative electrode current collector; and a negative electrode active material layer adhering to the surface of the negative electrode current collector. The negative electrode active material layer includes: a carbon material capable of occluding and releasing lithium; and a silicon oxide expressed by SiO(where 0.5<x<1.5). The negative electrode active material layer has: a surface layer portion rich in the silicon oxide; and a primary layer rich in the carbon material. In the surface layer portion, the mass percentage of the silicon oxide is 50 mass% or more to the total mass of the carbon material and the silicon oxide. The negative electrode active material layer is pre-doped with lithium by an amount of the lithium corresponding to at least part of the irreversible capacity of the negative electrode. |
