A retractable deflector 10 for mounting to a front of a vehicle 100, preferably an engine compartment of an articulated lorry, comprises first and second support members 12, 14 and a resilient fabric cover 16 secured between the first and second support members 12, 14. The support members 12, 14 are movable between a stowed position in which cover 16 is substantially flat between support members 12, 14 and a deployed position in which cover 16 is stretched between support members 12, 14 to form a three-dimensional deflector. Support members 12, 14 preferably comprise mechanised struts and a bridge may be provided between them. Deflector 10 may deploy and retract automatically according to vehicle speed and/or through remote manual control, and automatic deployment and retraction may be delayed until the speed has crossed a threshold for a predetermined period. Fabric cover 16 may be breathable or may comprise a mesh to allow air to pass through to a vehicle radiator. |
