An ashtray (15) is described for use with a smoking machine for smoking a smoking article (10) such as a cigarette, cigarillo or a cigar. The ashtray has directional fin(s) (5) underneath the ashtray (15) for directing airflow over the smoking article. This can allow the direction of airflow (24, 26, 28) to be confined to a well-defined path, and turbulence in the airflow to be reduced. An air scoop (4) may also be provided. The fin(s) (5) may take the form of a lobe which extends below the ashtray. The fin(s) (5) may also decrease in width with increasing distance from the ashtray i.e. be wedge shaped (figures 4 and 5). The fin can also comprise a fin body, a tapered guide into the fin, and/or a tapered guide out of the fin. |
