In apparatus for making e.g. putty, powder and oil are metered into a pre-mixer 3 having helically arranged paddles 6, and delivered thence to a mixer 13 having interrupted flights 15A, B, C, and fixed plates 16, 17 having perforations which increase in size in successive plates. The flights may have shearing edges cooperating with the perforated plates and their shaft may also carry a conical member 31 to compress the mix, which is discharged by a screw 20 in a reduced diameter portion 13X. The mixer barrel 13 has internal paraxial or helical ribs, flutes or channels (see Figs. 3-8, not shown) of opposite hand to the flights 15. The apparatus may also be used for mixing paints and synthetic plastics. |
