The present invention relates to a cassette for a milling cutter comprising a cutter carrier and a clamping unit coupled to constitute an overall quadrangular cassette. The cutter carrier and the clamping unit are placed loosely and limit together a fastening hole for a fastening screw for fastening the cassette within an accommodation portion of the milling cutter. The cutter carrier has an installation portion for a cutting insert. The present invention also relates to a milling cutter having at least one accommodation portion for a cassette and having at least one such cassette. A gap (S) between the cutter carrier and the clamping unit is positioned below a cutting tip of the cutting insert such that chips are prevented from being inserted therein.
