The present invention relates to a portable device for displaying an augmented reality image and to a method therefor. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the method for displaying the augmented reality image displays the augmented reality image corresponding to a marker before the marker is displayed. The present invention includes the steps of: setting the view angle of a camera angle as a first view angle and the view angle of a display unit as a second view angle; detecting the marker at an angle between the second view angle and the first view angle if the second view angle is less than the first view angle; and displaying a first part of the augmented reality image corresponding to the marker, wherein the first part is a part of the augmented reality image to be located at the view angle less than the second view angle.
