A marine craft is provided with a pair of water rudders 9 each mounted in the slipstream from a ducted propeller 7 and each mounted by bearings 10 on a ring member 11 mounted in the craft for rotational movement about its own axis. The outer periphery of each ring 11 is toothed to be driven by a motor-driven pinion 15 and each rudder is driven about its pivotal axis by a motor 16. The axes of ring members 11 are spaced apart laterally of the vehicle or craft and if the ring members 11 are rotated in opposite directions so that the rudders are angled equally in end elevation to positions in which their axes intersect at a point above the rudders and are normal to a fore-and-aft axis of the vehicle or craft, movement of the rudders in the same sense will apply a couple to the vehicle or craft about a longitudinal axis passing through the C.G of the craft to cause a banked turn.</p> |
