The present invention relates to a method and a system for controlling operation of a hybrid vehicle which includes an engine and a motor as power sources. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the method includes the steps of: detecting a coolant temperature; detecting an air temperature; comparing the detected coolant temperature and air temperature; calculating an elapsed time after a start of an engine of the hybrid vehicle; and correcting torque of the engine and a motor of the hybrid vehicle based on comparison results of the coolant temperature and the air temperature and the elapsed time after the start of the engine, thereby reducing cold exhaust gas.
