A contact apparatus is provided with a fixed contact point, a moveable contact point, and an arc suppression member. The moveable contact point moves between a closed position to be in contact with the fixed contact point, and an open position to be away from the fixed contact point. The arc suppression member emits an arc suppression gas having an arc suppression property in a space where the fixed contact point and the moveable contact point are present.
