The invention relates to a calibration medium (1) for calibrating a sensor (25) designed to check at least one optical property of valuable documents, to a method for producing such a calibration medium (1), and to a method for calibrating a sensor (25) using the calibration medium (1). The calibration medium has a feature substance having the optical property to be checked and is distinguished by high homogeneity of the optical property which can be detected from the feature substance, which homogeneity is expressed in a very low standard deviation of the measurement signal intensity per square millimetre of less than 5% of the average value of the measurement signal intensity. The feature substance is preferably a luminescent substance.
