<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rod coating method and a rod coating apparatus, in which a coating streak is not generated in the boundary between a part where a coating liquid splashed by a bar-shaped or roll-shaped rotary body overflows and a part where the liquid does not overflow, and a coating film with a uniform film thickness can be efficiently formed. <P>SOLUTION: In the rod coating method, the bar-shaped or roll-shaped rotary body 3 is rotated in contact with a web, the coating liquid is supplied so that a liquid reservoir 4 is formed in a contact part with the web, an excessive coating liquid is scratched off between the bar-shaped or roll-shaped rotary body 3 and the web, and thereby a desired coating amount is applied.
