Longitudinal ribs 2 on a reinforced concrete floor slab 1 have recesses 3, 4 opening on lateral faces of the ribs, the bases of the recesses being formed by frangible webs 6 which may be broken by a hammer blow at locations where it is required to pass an element, such as a conduit, transversely through the rib. The recesses may be formed on only one face of a rib 2, Fig. 16 (not shown) or on opposite faces in staggered disposition, Fig. 17 (not shown) or may be formed on opposite faces of the ribs with a recess 3 on one face opposed by a recess 4 on the opposite face so as to be separated by a common frangible base 6. At least one of the cross-sectional dimensions of the recess may decrease towards the base 6. The ribs may project from the ends of the slab over the whole or a part as in Fig. 14, of their crosssection to function as support spurs. The edges of the slabs may be chamferred to allow reinforced concrete joints to be formed therebetween or as shown in Fig. 12 may have roughened vertical edge faces 8' between which non-shrinking or expansive high strength bonding mortar 9' is introduced.</p> |
