[Also in Division D1] A composition suitable for treating textile materials comprises an aqueous liquor containing at least one polymer or copolymer prepared from a vinyl or divinyl monomer and at least one reaction product containing isocyanate groups and prepared from a polyisocyanate and an organo-polysiloxane which contains at least two active hydrogen atoms in the molecule and has a molecular weight of up to 25,000, the reaction product optionally being in the form of its bisulphite addition product. Suitable polymers and copolymers of vinyl and divinyl monomers are those of ethylene, propylene, vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate, vinyl ethers, styrene, divinyl benzene, butadiene, isoprene, chloroprene or acrylic or methacrylic acid or a nitrile, ester or amide thereof; exemplified are butyl acrylate-styrene-acrylamide and butyl acrylate-methyl methacrylate-acrylamide copolymers. The polyisocyanate used to form the reaction product may be tetramethylene diisocyanate, hexamethylene diisocyanate, 1,4- cyclohexamediisocyanate, 4,4<SP>1</SP> - dicyclohexylmethane diisocyanate, 2,4- or 2,6-hexahydrotoluylene diisocyanate, p-phenylene diisocyanate, 2,4- or 2,6-toluylene diisocyanate or a compound having the formula obtained by the reaction of 3 mols of hexamethylene diisocyanate with 1 mol of water, and suitable organopolysiloxanes are those of the general formula R n SiO 4-n/2 , in which n has a value of 1-3 and in which each substituent R is one of the radicals R<SP>1</SP>, -X-Y or Y-X-Y, in which R<SP>1</SP> is an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon radical which may carry alkyl or halo substituents, e.g. methyl, ethyl, isopropyl, tert-butyl, octadecyl, allyl, chloromethyl, trifluoro-propyl, cyclohexyl, phenyl or tolyl, X is an aliphatic or araliphatic bivalent or trivalent radical which may contain an ether, thioether, ester or amino linkage and Y is a hydroxyl, sulphydryl, carboxyl, carbonamide or secondary amine group, provided that at least two siloxane units in the molecule have the formula in which m is 1 or 2 and the substituents R in the remaining siloxane units are exclusively the radical R<SP>1</SP>. In preparing the composition the reaction products containing isocyanate groups the viscosity of which is if necessary adjusted to a low value by the addition of benzene, toluene, ethyl acetate, benzine or a chlorinated hydrocarbon, may be emulsified in water in which emulsifiers, e.g. an alkylphenol polyglycol ether or alkali metal salts of paraffin sulphonic acids, alkyl benzene sulphonic acids, or acid sulphuric acid esters of higher aliphatic alcohols, have been dissolved in quantities of 0À5-10% by weight and the polymers or copolymers stirred into the emulsion in the form of an aqueous dispersion, and the composition optionally diluted with water. The liquor may also contain reaction products containing isocyanate groups prepared by the reaction of excess of a polyisocyanate with a high molecular weight polyester, polyester amide, polyether or polythioether which contains at least two hydroxyl groups, a free polyisocyanate, e.g. or dimethylol dihydroxyethylene urea or dimethylol ethylene urea and magnesium chloride.</p> |
