<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a walking-beam type furnace which can reduce the influence of the radiant heat particularly of the "shadow" of a beam than before, thereby capable of reducing a skid mark. <P>SOLUTION: In the walking-beam type furnace 1, a slab S inserted in the furnace is alternately placed on a stationary beam 3 and a moving beam 2 which support the slab and is conveyed towards an extraction port while being heated with a burner. The stationary beam 3 is arranged so that it extends along the conveying direction of the slab S (furnace length direction).
