Provided are a radio communication system, a base station apparatus, a user terminal and a radio communication method all capable of determining channel quality information in consideration of interference from a plurality of transmission points or the like appropriately. The radio communication system is a system having a plurality of base station apparatuses each configured to transmit desired signal measurement reference signals and interference measurement reference signals for measuring a channel state and a user terminal configured to communicate with the base station apparatuses. Each of the base station apparatuses has a determining section configured to determine resources to allocate the desired signal measurement reference signals and the interference measurement reference signals; and a phase control section configured to perform phase rotation on symbols of the interference measurement reference signals. The determining section controls the interference measurement reference signals to be allocated to same resources as interference measurement reference signals transmitted from another base station apparatus, and the phase control section controls the symbols of the interference measurement reference signals to have different phase rotation amounts from phase rotation amounts of the other base station apparatus.
