摘要 A bulk of polyester polymer particles comprising polyester polymer comprising greater than 75% virgin polyester polymer, the particles having: A) an It.V. of at least 0.72 dl/g, andB) 10 ppm or less of residual acetaldehyde; andC) at least two melting peaks, wherein one of said at least two melting peaks is a low peak melting point within a range of 140° C. to 220° C. and having a melting endotherm area of at least the absolute value of 1 J/g. The particles may also have a degree of crystallinity within a range of 20% and a maximum degree of crystallinity Tcmax defined by the equation: Tcmax=50%−CA−OH where CA is the total mole % of all carboxylic acid residues other than terephthalic acid residues, based on 100 mole % of carboxylic acid residues, and OH is the total mole % of all hydroxyl functional compound residues other than ethylene glycol residues, based on 100 mole % of hydroxyl functional compounds residues. The preforms and bottles made from these particles can be obtained by melt processing these particles at either lower overall power, faster screw speeds, lower residence time, or lower overall cycle time to thereby reduce the level of residual acetaldehyde generated in the melt.

A process for melt process for melt processing polyester polymer particles comprising: A) if a drying zone is present, drying the particles in the drying zone to produce dried particles; B) feeding the particles into a melt processing zone, or if a drying zone is present, feeding dried particles into a melt processing zone; C) melting the particles in the melting processing zone, and D) forming articles from the melt; wherein the polymer particles introduced into the melt processing zone or into the drying one if present contain at least 90 mole % ethylene glycol residues based on hydroxyl residues in the polymers, and the particles comprise at least 75% virgin polyester, and (i) have at least two melting peaks wherein one of said at least two melting peaks is a low peak melting point within a range of 140° C. to 220° C. and having a melting endotherm area of at least the absolute value of 1 J/g or(ii) have one or more melting peaks at least one of which, when measured on a DSC first heating scan, has a heating curve departing from a baseline in the endothermic direction at a temperature of less than or equal to 200° C., wherein the melt processing zone comprises a barrel, a heating element directing heat to the barrel, a screw rotating within the barrel, and a screw motor; and the screw revolutions are at a setting which is higher than the screw revolutions than would be applied to melt process, at the same power, a polyester polymer having the same intrinsic viscosity (It.V), same composition, a low peak melting point, or a sole peak melting point where two peaks do not exist, greater than 220° C., to form the same article having substantially the same level of haze.
