PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus capable of accurately identifying a position of a user's finger without dependence of a background color.SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus includes: an acquisition unit that acquires an image including a first region of a user; an extraction unit that extracts a color feature amount or a luminance gradient feature amount from the image; and a detection unit that detects the first region on the basis of the color feature amount or the luminance feature amount. The image processing apparatus further includes a selection unit that causes the detection unit select to make a selection as to whether to select the color feature amount or the luminance gradient feature amount on the basis of first information on a moving speed of the first moving region, which is calculate from comparison of a plurality of image acquired at different time.
